Game 3: November 7, 2007 Dimond 6 vs.
Chugiak Mustangs 3 Boeke Arena
The Dimond Lynx continue to start
slow but finish strong as they score five third period goals to handle
the Chugiak Mustangs in front of a very loud Dimond crowd. The first
period was full of big hits and scoring chances with Chugiak out
shooting the Lynx 9-6. Senior Grant Dye gave the Lynx the lead at 6:56
with a one handed shovel shot off a pass from Michael Farnham. Dimond’s
Erik Cooper was awarded a penalty shot for being tripped on a breakaway
but was denied by Chugiak goalie James McCurtain. The Lynx picked it up
in the second period out shooting the Mustangs 7-2 but neither team
could score. The well conditioned Lynx picked it up in the third period
making it 2-0 at 13:01 as Adam Treptow banged home a rebound off a Cody
Mesick shot. Chugiak made it 2-1 at 8:20 when Trevor Stefan knocked in a
loose puck just out of the reach of Dimond goalie Neil Gotschall. Adam
Treptow answered back at 7:29 assisted by Nolan Youngmun. Michael Stoner
made it 4-1 Dimond with a quick wrist shot to the top of the net
assisted by Cole Christianson and Ryan Cole. The Mustangs tried to stay
close with a goal at 4:16 to make it 4-2 but the Lynx scored off the
next face-off to squash any hope. Nolan Youngmun completed a nice
passing play from Erik Cooper and Adam Treptow at 4:08 to make it 5-2.
What was a 1-0 game just twelve minutes ago was now a scoring fest with
more to come. The Mustangs pulled their goalie for an extra attacker and
James McMullen rifled the puck into the net at 0:54 to make it 5-3
Dimond. The Mustangs won the next face-off and controlled the puck
before dumping it deep into the Lynx zone. Tyler Morgan chipped the
puck into the neutral zone and Nolan Youngmun out muscled a Chugiak
defender, then raced in and scored an empty net goal for the 6-3 final.

Game 4: November 9, 2007 Dimond 3 vs. South
Wolverines 1 Boeke Arena
The Dimond Lynx fans started to
fill the Boeke arena during the JV game and continued until the arena
was full. The Lynx faithful chanted “DHS” “DHS” as the Lynx starters
were announced and continued as the South Wolverines were announced so
that all you could hear was “DHS” “DHS”…………..and then they puck dropped.
The first period saw end to end action with big hits and plenty of
scoring action. Dimond Senior goalie Mickey Geraghty made 10 saves and South
Sophomore goalie Josh Benton made 9 saves. The Lynx power play had two
opportunities in the first period but failed to generate any scoring
chances. The Wolverines took a 1-0 at 9:26 of the first period when a
Lynx defender was crosschecked in the back causing him to fall allowing
the Wolverines to attack the net and score on the rebound. The Lynx tied
the game with a power play goal at 5:24 when Nolan Youngmun carried the
puck into the South zone, curled back just inside the blue line and
cycled the puck down the wall to Erik Cooper who passed to Adam Treptow who
beat Benton with a wrist shot. The Lynx fans went crazy and fueled the
emotions of the Lynx players who quickly made it 2-1 at 4:44 when
Michael Stoner threw a big hit on a South defenseman causing a turnover
behind the South net. Austen Burgh picked up the loose puck and fed
Andrew Treptow who chipped the puck over the South goalie who watched as
it dropped just over the goal line. The South Wolverines got a big
chance to take the game over when Dimond’s Jeff Mobley was ejected for
butt ending. South would enjoy a five minute power play. The Lynx killed
off about a minute of the power play before South earned a minor
penalty. The teams played four on four, for two minutes and then the
Lynx held on to the end of period two. With the Lynx clinging to a 2-1
lead to start the third period they still had to kill off 1:30 power
play. Dimond’s Geraghty came up the hero stopping several close range
shots to keep the Lynx in the lead. The game continued with big hits and
scoring chances with both goalies making big saves. Finally with 0:58
remaining Senior defensemen Cody Mesick scored an empty net goal from
180 feet with a bank shot off the side boards. The LYNX are now 4-0 on
the young season.

Game 5: November 11, 2007 Dimond 14 vs.
Colony Knights 1 Wasilla Sports Center
The snow started
falling at 4 pm just as the lynx were boarding the bus for the 1.5 hour
drive North to the Wasilla Sports Center. The snow continued as rush
hour traffic “Alaska” style backed up the Glenn Hwy from Eklutna to
Anchorage. The Lynx finally arrived at the Sports Center at 7:10 and
quickly dressed for the game which was scheduled for 7 pm. The Lynx
scored early and often against an outmatched Colony Knight team and out
shot the Knights 47-15 and won for the fifth straight game by a score of
14-1. The trip home was the usual 1.5 hours back to the school. The Lynx
will practice on Wednesday before facing long time rival the Service
Cougars on Thursday.

Game 6: November 13, 2007 Dimond 4 vs.
Service Cougars 3 Boeke Arena
Adam Treptow’s goal with 1:52
remaining in the game gave the Lynx a 4-2 lead which proved to be enough
for the Lynx to hold on for a 4-3 win over the long time rival Service
Cougars. The Boeke arena was full again and the game played to the crowd
as both teams exchanged scoring chances in period one. The Cougars
scored first on a power play at 5:40 when Ryan Kowal skated right down
the slot after Dimond’s Grant Dye was picked near the top of the left
face off circle. Kowal beat Dimond goalie Mickey Geraghty with a quick
wrist shot and a 1-0 lead. The Cougars scored again at 5:24 with Jack
Cronin knocking in a loose puck that was mis-handled by Geraghty for a
2-0 Cougar lead. Both goalies were busy in period one as Geraghty turned
aside 11 shoots and Eric Aasand of Service made 10 saves. The Lynx have
really struggled in the first period this season but have dominated
games after that. Dimond sophomore Scott Wamsganz cut the lead to 2-1
at 8:17 of the second period beating Aasand with a wrist shot past the
glove hand. Then at 5:16 Nolan Youngmun tied the game at two with a snap
shot that hit the back post just under the crossbar. The Lynx completely
dominated the second period out shooting the Cougars 15-3. The third
period was more Lynx hockey as Erik Cooper made it 3-2 Dimond by tapping
in a rebound after a wicked slap shot from Youngmun hit Aasand in the
goalie mask and landed just out of his reach. Treptow then scored the
game winner completing a two on one rush with a one timer past Aasand
and a 4-2 lead. Service’s Kowal made it 4-3 with 1:09 remaining beating
Geraghty high to the blocker to make the finish exciting as the Cougars
played with an extra attacker until the final buzzer. The Lynx are now
6-0 on the season. The Lynx play at Wasilla Friday and then against East

Game 7: November 15, 2007 Dimond 9 vs.
Wasilla Warriors 1 Brett Arena
The Lynx continued their winning
ways with a 9-1 whipping of the Wasilla Warriors. This was Dimond’s
third game in four nights but the Lynx showed no signs of being tired as
they used a balanced attack and scored in every period. Dimond’s Austen
Burgh scored his first of the season at 7:24 of the first period
catching a pass from Max Fairchild and beating Wasilla goalie Jesse
Hugli high to the glove side and a 1-0 Lynx lead. Senior Grant Dye made
it 2-0 at 2:33 converting a Michael Farnham pass and the Lynx were on
their way. Ryan Cole made it 3-0 at 13:45 of the second period assisted
by Tyler Morgan. Erik Cooper made it 4-0 Lynx at 11:44 assisted by Adam
Treptow and Nolan Youngmun. The Warriors tried to stay in the game and
made it 4-1 at 9:44 of the second period when Dane Wilson batted the
puck of goalie Neil Goitschall’s glove and into the net but it was all
the Warriors would get as Gotschall shut the door the rest of the way.
The Lynx scored twice more before the end of the period with Scott
Wamsganz scoring at 1:17 assisted by Farnham and again with just five
seconds remaining as Farnham converted a Dye centering pass and a 6-1
lead. Youngmun made it 7-1 at 12:26 of the third with a laser shot to
the top of the net assisted by Adam Treptow. Burgh then potted his
second of the night at 10:05 on a nice give and go from Eric Vilce. The
Lynx continued to work hard right to the end of the game and Wamsganz
notched his second goal at 1:12 assisted by Dye and Cody Mesick. The
Lynx are now 7-0 overall and play East on Tuesday at the Boeke Arena.

Game 8: November 20, 2007 Dimond 2 vs.
East Thunderbirds 0 Boeke Arena
The Dimond Lynx extend
their winning streak to eight games with a lackluster 2-0 shut out of
the East Thunderbirds. Senior Eric Vilce scored the only goal the Lynx
would need on a breakaway at 4:57 of the first period. Vilce was serving
a penalty for holding that was about to expire when Dimond Senior goalie
Mickey Geraghty made a pad save. Dimond Senior Grant Dye gathered the
rebound and sent a pass to Vilce as he stepped out of the penalty box
and skated across center ice. Vilce corralled the puck, skated in alone
on East goalie Adrian Oehrlein and beat him with a high wrist shot. The
Lynx spent most of period two killing penalties and clung to a 1-0 lead
late in the period until Adam Treptow took a pass from Nolan Youngmun
and beat Oehrlein five hole for a 2-0 lead. The Lynx turned up the heat
in period three out shooting the T-Birds 14-7 but Oehrlein stood strong
keeping East in the game. The Lynx will take five days off for
Thanksgiving before facing Bartlett and Eagle River next week.

powerful Lynx who also used a make shift lineup. The Lynx fired over 100
shots at the Bartlett net with 70 shots on target. Erik Eckberg and
Steven Deboer combined for 57 saves while the Bears could only muster 7
shots on Dimond goalie Neil Gotschall. The Lynx scoring was spread

The Dimond Lynx boarded a yellow school bus at 8:30
am today for the three hour bus trip to Soldotna. The road was clear and
dry and the sun shinning. Most players slept on the bus or listened to
their iPods. After arriving in Soldotna the Lynx had lunch at Don Jose’s
before checking into the Aspen Hotel.
Game time arrived and a large very loud Soldotna
crowd showed up to see how the SOHI Stars would do against the Lynx. It
didn’t take long for the Lynx to get going as they bombarded the Stars
end of the arena. It did take some time before the Lynx could solve
Dimond transfer Mike McGrath in net for SOHI. Dimond’s top line scored
at 5:21 as Erik Cooper scored assisted by Nolan Youngmun and Adam
Treptow. The SOHI Stars tied the game at 1-1 when the Lynx defense

Game
21: January 22, 2008 Dimond 1
vs. Chugiak Mustangs 3 McDonald Arena
The Dimond Lynx offense
continues to struggle since the winter break as Chugiak stops their
winning streak at twenty games. The Lynx winning streak was the longest
winning streak in the history of Dimond hockey during one season. The
Lynx last loss was in the 2007 ASAA State Championship Game when they
lost 2-1 to the three time State Champs from South High School. Chugiak
played a physically intimidating game, used great goaltending and a
potent power play to dismantle the Lynx. The Lynx seemed ready to
continue winning by out skating the Mustangs in period one and taking a
1-0 lead at 5:40 with Eric Vilce knocking in a rebound assisted by Scott
Wamsganz and Austen Burgh. The Lynx also killed off two power plays
given to the Mustangs and Senior goalie Mickey Geraghty turned aside all
five shots he faced. The second period saw the Mustangs take over the
game with big hits all over the ice. The Lynx were also whistled for
four penalties in the period and the Mustangs finally cashed in at 4:01
when Ben Matthews blasted a slap shot into the top corner from just
inside the blue line and a 1-1 tie. The Lynx out shot the Mustangs 9-7
in the second period but Chugiak goalie James McCurtain stood tall and
denied the Lynx every chance. The Mustangs turned up the heat to start
the third period and Ron Linder scored the game winner at 11:25 chipping
in a pass from Patrick Sheppard behind the Lynx net. The Lynx went on
the power play with 7:20 remaining and a chance to tie the game.
Chugiak’s McCurtain made a couple of big saves before Dimond’s Nolan
Youngmun was whistled for cross checking eliminating the Lynx power
play. At 4:36 just as the Youngmun’s penalty expired the Mustangs Logan
Demarcus rifled the puck past Geraghty to end Dimond’s twenty game
winning streak. The Lynx are now 20-1 on the season with one conference
game remaining.

Game
22: January
25, 2008 Dimond 1
vs. South Wolverines 2 (OT) Boeke Arena
This game had all the ingredients of a State
Championship and lived up to the rivalry that has been created since
South High opened it's doors. The South Wolverines clinched the second
seed for the Region IV Tournament, with a 2-1 OT thriller, that begins
on Monday. The Lynx had previously won the Cook Inlet Title and earned
the #1 seed. The capacity crowd was loud and proud all night as the Lynx
faithful were dressed in all white and the South crowd in all black. The
first period was back and forth with big hits, power play chances and
big saves by both goalies. South took a 1-0 lead at 5:03 of the second
period with a power play goal on a blast from Ray Stenehjem assisted by
DJ Peterson. The Lynx tied the game 1-1 at 0:15 with a power play goal
by Erik Cooper assisted by Eric Vilce and Cody Mesick. The teams
continued to challenge each other in the third period with both goalies
making seven saves and keeping the game tied at 1-1. Overtime was more
of the same until the Lynx turned the puck over at their blue line
creating a 2 on 1 rush for the Wolverines. Somehow a cross ice pass
snuck past a Lynx defender and the 2007 Player of the year Rob Haider
chipped it in for the Wolverine victory. As the Wolverines entire team
celebrating in the Lynx zone several Lynx players left the ice in
frustration but were quickly summoned back to center ice for the
customary handshake line. Any hockey fan who missed this game missed a
great game. Both teams hope to meet each other again with the Region or
State Championship at stake.
Dimond: Gotschall 10-9-7-2 = 28 saves

Game

vs. Service Cougars Boeke Arena
The Lynx had their best first period of the season
and took a 2-0 before the first intermission. Austen Burgh started the
scoring converting a Scott Wamsganz goal mouth pass at 6:33 and a 1-0
lead. Ryan Cole made it 2-0 at 0:44 just as a Lynx power play ended as
he rifled a rebound into the top of the net. Michael Farnham and Andrew
Treptow assisted on Cole's game winning goal. The Lynx could have had a
bigger lead if not for the stellar goaltending of Cody Gongora who made
13 saves in the first period. The Cougars made an early run in the
second period when Ryan Kowal beat Dimond goalie Neil Gotschall on a
breakaway. With the score now 2-1 Dimond the Cougars continued to
pressure the Lynx. Dimond's Gotschall made several big saves in a busy
period. Finally, late in the period Nolan Youngmun found a wide
open Erik Cooper in the slot who quickly buried the puck in the top left
corner and a 3-1 lead. The third period continued to be a close, hard
hitting game until Cody Mesick scored an empty net goal at 0:31 and a
4-1 win. The Lynx will face the Chugiak Mustangs on Saturday night in

COOK INLET
CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
Game
25: February
2, 2008 Dimond 3
vs. Chugiak Mustangs 1 Boeke Arena
Anchorage Daily
News Story
The ticket line started
forming at 4:45 PM and by 5:15 PM when tickets started selling the line
extended all the way thru the lobby and back to the front. Anxious
parents and friends chatted in line and hoped they were early enough to
get in the door. By the time the teams took the ice for warm ups at 6:30
PM the gates were closed and it was standing room only the Cook Inlet
Championship. The Dimond Lynx were in their ninth CIC Championship game
in eleven years while Chugiak was in their first since 2004 and just
their third in the last thirteen seasons. Dimond and Chugiak have met
only once before in the CIC Championship game back in 1994 with Dimond
winning 4-1. The Lynx came out skating and the Mustangs came out hitting
and the action was end to end. The Mustangs physical play led to a
crosschecking penalty at 10:26 allowing the Lynx a golden opportunity to
take charge of the game. The Lynx enjoyed several close range scoring
chances but could not get the puck past the Mustangs “Iron McCurtain” in
goal. The first period ended with the score 0-0. The Lynx enjoyed an 8-2
advantage in shots on net. The second period was more hitting by the
Mustangs and more scoring chances for both teams with the Lynx out
shooting the Mustangs 12-9 but it was the Mustangs who scored first.
With 1:27 remaining in the second period the Lynx were penalized for too
many men on the ice during a line change. The Mustangs won the neutral
zone face off and dumped the puck deep into the Lynx zone. Dimond’s Chad
Campoamor picked up the puck behind his net and rang it around the
boards which was held in by Chugiak defensemen Matt Geurts. Guerts
stepped around a reaching Nolan Youngmun before shooting. A battle for
the rebound occurred until Kyle Whetham knocked in the rebound for a 1-0
Chugiak lead. The Lynx became more aggressive in the third period which
lead to an elbowing penalty at 11:37 and a chance for Chugiak to
increase their lead. The Lynx penalty killers and goalie Mickey Geraghty
were up to the challenge to keep the score at 1-0 Chugiak. Finally at
6:11 Ryan Cole picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and beat a
Chugiak defensemen wide to his backhand and slid a pass to a streaking
Andrew Treptow who corralled the puck on his backhand and lifted it over
a sprawling McCurtain for a 1-1 tie. The Lynx won the center ice faceoff
back to Scott Browning who tried to gain the redline and dump the puck
in. Browning was knocked flat with an elbow to the head causing a
turnover at the center red line creating a 2 on 1 rush. Chugiak’s Geurts
and Linder broke in on Lynx defender Tyler Morgan and goalie Geraghty.
Morgan forced Geurts wide and then slid to take away his passing lane.
Geurts fired a wrist shot and missed the net. The shot rang around the
boards and was picked up by Eric Vilce. Vilce streaked up the ice
beating two Chugiak defenders to his back hand, then switched the puck
to his forehand and somehow chipped it by a diving McCurtain. Vilce goal
was unassisted just 21 seconds after the Lynx had tied the game. The
Lynx now held the momentum and the lead 2-1 with just 5:50 remaining.
Both teams continued to compete and battle hard until Dimond’s Scott
Wamsganz was whistled for holding at 4:49 giving the Mustangs another
chance to tie the game. The Lynx penalty killers and Geraghty came up
big again holding the Mustangs to just two shots during the power play.
The Mustangs pulled their goalie for an extra attacker with over 1:30
remaining and had several good scoring chances blocked by the Lynx
defense and goalie Mickey Geraghty. Nolan Youngmun just missed ending
the game with an empty net chance that went wide. The Mustangs made one
last rush but were whistled for a hand pass at the Lynx blue line. Ryan
Cole won the face off to the near boards and Max Fairchild dug out the
puck and chipped it up the rink to Andrew Treptow who scored into the
empty net from just outside the Chugiak blue line with 0:01 remaining in
the game. Both teams look ready for next weeks state tournament in
Wasilla. Game times and brackets will be announced on Super Bowl Sunday
at www.asaa.org
Dimond: Geraghty
